OUR ROOTS

A Legacy of Dedication and Artistry

After nearly two decades in wine, Missick Cellars found its Texas home in Boerne in 2023. Our journey took us from France to California, then to New York’s Finger Lakes, and finally to the rugged Texas Hill Country—a path of pioneers seeking new frontiers.

In 2011, the Missick family purchased a Finger Lakes winery, transforming it into a beacon of excellence.

By 2020, we rebranded it as Missick Cellars, a family legacy. As Chris wrote to our wine club at the time, “What we built was no longer what we bought. We earned a Wine & Spirits Magazine ‘Top 100 Wines’ honor, launched a stellar sparkling wine program, revived Chenin Blanc in the Finger Lakes after a trial planting 40 years ago, and elevated wine education.”

In 2023, inspired by Texas’s bold spirit, we moved to Boerne. Here, we grow food, tend chickens and bees, and craft authentic Texas wines on our homestead. Looking ahead, we plan to plant an estate vineyard for sparkling wines, continuing our legacy of innovation. Visit our Boerne tasting room to sip our story.

This move wasn't about expansion; it was about honing in on obsessing over the small things, building our family homestead just miles from the tasting room, and creating a legacy for our children within a wonderful community.

Our Philosophy: Family/Community/Texas

At Missick Cellars, we believe that exceptional winemaking is an exercise in patience and precision, and making wine from the best vineyard sites.

The most important lessons in winemaking are not found in books or tech sheets, but in travel, place, taste, and conversations.  From garnering  sparkling wine inspiration in Limoux, to sitting at lunch with cellar and vineyard teams in Madiran, and sharing the camaraderie of the world of wine at ProWein in Germany, experiences are the crucible of learning. We have been blessed with the richness of experience, and pour that passion into every bottle.

We focus on boutique production, ensuring each vintage reflects our commitment to elegance and the timeless character of premium Texas grapes. Our philosophy is rooted deep in the past, while recognizing the importance that modern organic chemistry has given winemakers.
